President /Chairman, Governing Council of Institute of Information Management, IIM, Dr. Oyedokun Oyewole has described the inadequate data sourcing and storage as the bane of multiple economic, social, political and insecurity challenges facing Nigerian economy today.
Oyewole made the assertion at a press conference to announce plans for IIM-Africa’s annual lecture, Induction / Investiture ceremony 2015, to honour different stakeholders in Nigeria. He even revealed that parts of people to honour at the event, included the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, (SAN),
He said that the organisation is strategically located to assist the government, economic planners, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders at making informed decisions through the data available before them.
He admitted that, the availability of this data in the country goes a long way in assisting the state towards making functional policies that will be of great benefit to the masses, stating that the success of the new administration critically depends on good information networking and governance.
He played down insinuations as believed by many organisations and public that having access to this data bank will lead to sabotage in the industry, thereby relinguishing sensitive information to unauthorised authorities both within and outside the country.
The chairman encouraged Government to pay good attention to information management in the country as Nigerians are anxiously waiting to feel the impact of good governance while delivering on the numerous campaign promises made by the government.
Oyewole stressed the need to develop the Information Management industry as one which cannot be over-emphasized, as successful nations and organizations in the future will depend on how well they enable information to be appropriately managed by professionals thereby ensuring confidentiality, integrity, completeness, and preservation of Information for better decision making and use.
He stressed the importance of proper data keeping as key to helping make a robust decision by firms. He promised that the organisation will launch a health solution, “MedicPurse” which will afford patients quick access to immediate diagnostic / treatment within a flash of light.
The solution will be personalised with patients’ account built with Geographic Information System (GIS) device which allows for easy detection and connectivity to the network irrespective of patients’ location.
