Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Comrade Elijah Ologe, who paid a surprise visit to the school, has directed the Director of Personnel Management, DPM, of SUBEB to issue Mrs. Igheneno a query to explain her culpability.

Ologe, who was visibly shocked over the development, also directed the DPM to query the Local Education Authority Secretary for the Local Government Area, Comrade Efetobore Okeh, and the Head Teacher of the school for abetting the alleged criminal act of Mrs Igheneno.

He stated that while Mrs Igheneno needed to explain why she chose to engage another person to teach the pupils for her and at the end of the month collect salaries from the state government and pay the young man peanut, the Okpe Local Education Secretary and the head teacher  were asked to also explain why they allowed such criminal act to happen in the school.

The SUBEB chairman stated that the response to the query might lead to further actions on the matter, noting that due process must be followed in addressing the issue in line with civil service rules.

Ologe decried the extent some people could go to perpetrate crime, noting that  Delta State primary school system would be uncomfortable with those who were out to defraud government by all means.

In a related development, the Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Comrade Elijah Ologe, has advised teachers in the state to shun corruption in all its ramifications.

Ologe, who stated this at a meeting with education secretaries in the state at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area, said the board would sanction any official caught collecting illegal money from pupils.

He said teachers should be in the forefront of ant-corruption crusade, and that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s government was determined to enhance quality of education in the state.

Ologe reminded all that teachers were a vital tool in the development of education, noting that training and retraining of teachers remained a top priority in the board.

He urged the education secretaries to report to the board any teacher found wanting.

The Dean, National Association of Education Secretaries, Delta State chapter, Evang Egwero Eniyome, commended SUBEB for its commitment to good and quality education in the state.

He charged education secretaries in the state to put in measures to tackle numerous flaws militating against the growth of education.
