AS the alleged jumbo salary for members of the National Assembly continues to generate controversy, Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, Tuesday stormed the National Assembly protesting and demanding for 60 per cent cut in salaries and allowances of the federal lawmakers and political appointees in Nigeria.

Mr Labaran Maku, former Minister of Information and governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in Nasarawa during general elections in April, will call 60 witnesses to testify in his petition. Maku lost the election to the incumbent Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

President Buhari, on Tuesday, vowed to get Africa’s biggest economy back on track after claiming the previous administration had left the treasury “virtually empty”. “We will try and put the system back into the right position,” Muhammadu Buhari said at a meeting of governors from Nigeria’s 36 states and Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

“For 16 years of our existence, we have taken all major festivals, religious or not, as opportunities to discover new recipes.

“The House recognizes that there remains widespread citizens’ distrust of public institutions and government generally. “It is also recognized that there is a lot of public misconceptions and misperceptions about the functions and contributions of the legislature to Nigeria’s overall socioeconomic and political development.
