Ekwunife condoles with Onitsha tanker fire victims

Uche Ekwunife acknowledging cheers from supporters

Senator-elect for Anambra Central senatorial zone, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, yesterday, condoled with the families of those who lost their lives in last Sunday’s tanker inferno.

The tanker which crashed into  Asaba Motor Park at the Upper Iweka end of Onitsha, claimed 70 lives.

Ekwunife, who is a sitting member representing Anaocha, Dunukofia, Njikeoka Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, described the accident as a national calamity.

The lawmaker, who cut short her official engagement to inspect the carnage at Upper Iweka,  expressed sadness over the loss of lives and property.

She promised to ensure a legislation that would put an end to unnecessary loss of lives and property on the highways by lorry and heavy duty vehicles was passed when the 8th National Assembly resumed.

“It is unfortunate that we continue to lose our loved ones in such careless and difficult situations.

‘’I want to express my deepest condolence to the families that lost their loved ones in the ugly incident and pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased.

‘’I am going to make legislation alongside fellow senators-elect, to put an end to such horrible, careless and avoidable accidents on Nigerian roads,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Ekwunife has congratulated the Editor-In-Chief and Managing Director of The Sun Publishing Limited, Mr. Femi Adesina on his appointment as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The lawmaker in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Emmanuel Uzor, described Mr. Adesina as the true face of journalism, anchored on truth and fairness.

Describing Mr. Adesina as a man with courage and conscience to work, and love for total unity of the country, Ekwunife expressed optimism that Mr. Adesina would replicate his Midas touch in The Sun newspapers in his new office, and wished him well in his office as presidential spokesman.
