EFCC’s fresh suit against Sylva, confirmation of persecution – BDF

By Samuel Oyadongha

Yenagoa — Bayelsa Democratic Front, BDF, has described the fresh charge against the former governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as a confirmation of his political persecution by the commission.

BDF, in a statement, yesterday in Yenagoa by its President-General, P. Okpoebi, said that while EFCC had tried unsuccessfully to disguise an obviously commissioned persecution of Sylva as a corruption trial, the fresh charge it filed on Friday in Abuja removed every doubt as to the motive of the commission.

It praised the judiciary for showing great courage and determination to uphold justice and the integrity of the court, despite obvious
pressure, when it recently dismissed the charges by EFCC against Sylva.

It condemned what it called EFCC’s strange decision to restart the case at the very court that had dismissed it, saying that such action smacks of dangerous desperation, which tries to rubbish the country’s ant-corruption effort.

BDF said: “Many politicians in the country, both serving and former, have pending EFCC cases. Why is Sylva’s case being treated this way?”
