A building, located at 14, Ijaye Street, Agege, Lagos, collapsed yesterday.
Though no life was lost, some of the residents reportedly sustained injuries during, the resultant stampede. The cause was attributed to the down pour “which weakened the foundation of the building”. Residents said rain started at about 10am but turned into downpour at about 11am. South West spokesman for the National Emergency Management Authority, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, said:
“The rainwater penetrated into the foundation of the mud constructed house that was built over 50 years ago. No casualty was recorded as emergency rescuers and neighbours responded quickly. The Lagos Building Control Agency arrived to evacuate all occupants immediately”.
