ABUJA — THE Rice Processors Association of Nigeria, RIPAN, at the weekend backed the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina as the next president of African Development Bank, AfDB. Chairman, RIPAN, Muhammed Abubakar, disclosed this in Abuja while he while speaking with journalists, where he said the performance of the Minister in the agricultural sector and his track record at various international organisations makes him the preferred candidate for the job.
He also stated that the Minister’s experience and expertise will facilitate harnessing of the continent’s agricultural potential and expansion of its economy. Abubakar said: “This will be the best thing for Africa if the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina becomes the President of African Development Bank.
“I am sure that he (Adesina) is going to fight hunger, head-on, and that would help Africa a lot, because Africa needs a strong, focused and experienced person like him.
“And he will project and concentrate on agriculture, because of huge potential of agriculture in Africa, which can provide resources for the development of other sectors of the economy. Other continents developed to where they are today due to prospects in their agricultural sector.” Meanwhile, Abubakar expressed displeasure over the frustration some rice importers were giving to members of his association.
