Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, the Special Adviser on Security to a former governor of Rivers, on Thursday said the PDP lost the 2015 general elections due to violation of internal democracy. Sara-Igbe, who served in Gov. Peter Odili’s administration, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the party disregarded warnings to stop imposition of candidates during its primary elections.

The National Examinations (NEC) Committee of WAEC on Thursday said that it had cancelled results of candidates involved in examination malpractices at the 2014 examinations. Mr Damianus Ojijeogu of the Public Affairs Department in WAEC disclosed this in a statement in Lagos. He said that the decision was taken at the 59th meeting of the committee.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday struck out a suit filed by the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers, challenging the removal of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Omirin and his deputy, Adesegun Orisalade. Justice Saliu Saidu, who gave the ruling, awarded a cost of N100, 000 against Omirin and 18 other lawmakers.

An Abule-Egba Magistrates’ Court on Thursday in Lagos granted an accused a N500, 000 bail for allegedly stealing 694 cartons of beer bottles. The Magistrate, Mrs Adenike Shonubi, ordered that the accused, 53-year-old Ajibola Tokunbo should produce two sureties in like sum as part of his bail condition. The accused, the driver of the bus transporting the empty bottles, was docked for stealing, conspiracy and causing a breach of peace.

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Thursday appealed to Lagosians to bear with it over gridlocks caused by petrol tanker drivers in Apapa axis, Lagos. Mr Tokunbo Korodo, the South-West Chairman of the union, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the untold hardship was not a fault of the union members.

A 27-year-old generator repairer has reportedly stabbed one Tochukwu Ejika, a security man, to death in Lagos. The suspect, identified as Abimbola Azeez, who is from Ikire in Osun State, reportedly stabbed the victim several times on his belly during a misunderstanding in God’s Own Estate, Ijanikin. Vanguard learned that the suspect was on his way out of the estate when the Chief Security Officer accosted him at about 8p.m. An exchange of words followed, which degenerated into a fight.

Judges in France will investigate claims that French soldiers raped children in the Central African Republic, the state prosecutor announced Thursday. Fourteen soldiers have been placed under investigation following statements by six children aged between nine and 13 that some were sexually abused by French peacekeepers between December 2013 and June 2014.
