The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday declared Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winner of Saturday governorship election in Delta. The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Bio Nyananyo, announced in Asaba that Okowa polled 724,680 votes to beat his closest rival, Chief Great Ogboru of the Labour Party, who got 130,028 votes.

“They must do much more to help secure your release. I am among many people pressuring them to make sure you are freed,” she added, calling the girls “my brave sisters”. Yousafzai’s letter, which she said was “a message of solidarity love and hope”, comes as events, including marches, prayers and vigils, were being held to mark the girls’ 12 months in captivity.

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara was on Sunday re-elected for a second term after defeating 15 other candidates at the just concluded House of Assembly and Governorship Election in the state. The Lagos State Governor-elect, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has called on the PDP governorship candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje and others who contested against him to join hands with his administration to build the state. Ambode spoke on Sunday while delivering his acceptance speech at the APC secretariat in Lagos shortly after he was declared winner of the governorship elections.
