CAPETONIANS have been given a chance to learn more about the technical aspects of renewable energy in a practical way. Spokesperson for the two-day energy festival, Alexis Scholtz, highlights the benefits of renewable energy.

nuclear-power“At the moment we have 8 percent renewable energy in our energy mix and it’s a very small amount. We have already put four megawatts on the ground, we done two in three years and renewable energy is faster to come on line, is cheaper and it actually creates more employment.

This festival is to raise awareness for that and ask government why we are not building more renewable energy.” Brain Ashley from the Alternative Information and Development Centre says they have embarked on a petition calling on government to create a million climate jobs.

“We’ve got to generate our electricity form solar and wind in particular.” When we are creating solar or wind energy we’re going to have turbines, solar cells, and a whole range of inputs which can be created and made in South Africa.
