NationaL Under-23 team were held to a goalless draw yesterday by their Zambian counterparts in the first leg qualifier of the All Africa Games at the National Stadium Abuja.
The team coached by Samson Siasia must now pull the chestnut out of the fire in the second leg, otherwise, they will be left to regret the countless missed opportunities in the game they clearly dominated, but failed to find the back of the net.
Striker, Oghenekaro Etebo missed three begging chances, as the Zambians effectively cleared their lines.
However, coach Siasia is hopeful that his boys will get the job done in the second leg as the Zambians will be forced out of their shell.
“If they (Zambia) could come here and get a draw, we could go there and beat them 2-0. We are not going to relent; we will give our best in the second leg.
“We did very well. We kept possession and created chances in the first half.
“The fact that we did not score does not mean this is a bad team. We only have to improve in our finishing,” Siasia said at the post-match press conference.
The second leg in Zambia comes up in two weeks.
