Lagos—Two persons, Hossein Jibo and Umaru Haruna, have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court in Lagos for allegedly robbing Biodun Babalola of his gold jewellery worth N2.5m.
Jibo and Haruna, both 30 years of age, are being accused of committing the alleged offence on October 27, 2014, at 0300hrs at No. 1 Dada-Alaja Street, Oke Arin Lagos.
The duo were also accused of robbing one Mrs Alebiodu Joy of her N1.3m, while armed with gun, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
They were arraigned on a 4-count charge of armed robbery brought against them by the police.
One of the counts read: “That you Hossein Jibo ‘m’ and Umaru Haruna ‘m’, and others still at large, on October 27, 2014 at about 0300hrs at No 1 Dada-Alakija Street, Oke Arin Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did rob Gold Jewellery worth N2.5m, property of one Biodun Babalola ‘f’, at No. 18 Faruka Apaba Street, Laderi Lagos.”
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Eranus Nnamonu, the offence is contrary to Section 294 and punishable under Section 295 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
However, when the charge was read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties who are to have paid tax for a period of 3 years.
She adjourned the matter to March 5 for mention.
