Benue, UNICEF train community health workers

MAKURDI—The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, in conjunction with the Benue State government have saved over two million infants and children from avoidable deaths through the strategic training for community health workers and councillors initiative.

The Director of Public Health at the Benue State Ministry of Health, Dr. Joseph Kumba, who made ths known yesterday in Makurdi the state capital, said the UNICEF intervention had also saved over one and half million women and nursing mothers in the state from untimely deaths.

He said, “the new strategy is anchored on community health workers and councillors who were trained and who in turn trained five care-givers in each of the 23 local government areas of the state.
