The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, recently called on elected leaders to have the fear of God in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
Abubakar spoke while receiving the governors of Sokoto and Edo, Kwara, as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, at his palace in Sokoto. The delegation was at the palace to show respect and seek his blessings on their political ambition.
Sultan said that good democratic governance would only be possible if elected leaders and those who found themselves in position of authority ensured fairness among the political, tribal and ethnic groups. He also called on stake holders to provide a level playing ground that would ensure peaceful conduct of the forthcoming general elections.
He said that it was only through peaceful atmosphere that the desire of Nigerians to have committed leaders would achieved, urging politicians to play responsible politics, to prevent all kinds of political violence and thuggery.
Also, Sen. Ahmed Tinubu, former Lagos State Governor, said that the APC-led administration, if elected, would respect the traditional institutions.
