Akure— A 60-year-old father of six, Oyinleye Ige, was reportedly burnt to death in a fire incident that gutted his house in Ita-Ogbolu area of Ondo State.

Vanguard gathered that the deceased, just relocated from Akure, the state capital to his home town after he suffered stroke.

His children and wife reportedly refused to join him at the home town but always visited.

Sources said that he died inside his room midnight following the fire incident allegedly occasioned by a candle which fell on his bed and burnt him on the bed.

His health condition reportedly did not allow him to shout for help or run out of the room when the fire started.

His neighbours said that he stayed alone in the house and by the time they discovered that smoke was coming out from the building, he had been burnt beyond recognition.

Another resident in the area, Bayo Isiaka, said that he and some other people rushed to the house when they discovered that smoke was coming out of the deceased’s room.

Bayo said that though they were able to save the building from being completely burnt, but the occupant of the room, Oyinleye had been burnt beyond recognition

He said that “We learned that the wife as usual was around to give her husband food and before she returned to Akure, there was no light, the woman put on a candle which she placed beside her husband bed.

“We believed that she might have forgotten to quench the candle before she left for Akure. It was at the middle of the night that the candle fell on the bed and since the man cannot walk, the fire met him on the bed and burned him on the bed.”

State Police image maker, Wole Ogodo said that the matter had not been reported to the police Command headquarters by the Divisional Police Station DPO.

But a police officer in the town divisional police station confirmed the incident.

Speaking in confidence, the police Officer said the corpse of the 60year old man had been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
