Workers give Enugu govt 21-day ultimatum

By Francis Igata

ENUGU—Workers in Enugu State yesterday issued a 21-day notice to the state government threatening to embark on industrial action if the state government continued unfair industrial relations practice in the state.

In a statement issued by the Enugu state Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, JPSNC, Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe, the workers demanded for the implementation of their demands to avoid unrest.

Igbokwe said the notice was in line with the principles of collective bargaining and industrial laws , saying that workers in the state need total implementation of the new salary chart, outstanding Salary arrears owned to the absorbed staff of ENADEP and Sport Council”.

Other issues include, “Re-engagement of illegally dismissed staff of ESHDC, implementation of CONHESS for Health Workers, implementation of the report of the committee on contributory pension Scheme, release of fund for immediate take off of the NHIS and correct implementation of the circular on study leave without pay”, he stated.

Igbokwe said JPSNC had in various times communicated to government through correspondences on the need to resolve the outstanding workers demands but the governor, Sullivan Chime administration had remained insensitive.
