Delta 2015: Okowa group faults allegations against Tompolo

By Simon Ebegbulem

BENIN—THE Okowa Mandate 2015 has described as cheap blackmail and misleading, allegations of dictatorship in the politics of Delta State levelled against Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), insisting that the former militant leader is a new breed democrat, who believes in equity and justice.

Chairman, Okowa Mandate 2015 and Special Adviser to the ex-militant leader, Mr Paul Bebenimibo, stressed that Ekpemupolo decided to support the aspiration of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa because “he believes that Okowa will work for the larger interest of Delta State and Nigeria in general and not his personal interest.”

According to Bebenimibo who spoke to Vanguard in Benin City, Edo State “The lies being told about Tompolo are unfair because he is a man who is sincere about the welfare of Niger Deltans and Nigeria as a whole. He never discusses his personal problem with any one, rather when he is with political leaders, all he talks about is how to better the lot of people.

“I recall when President Yar’Adua was alive, he met with Tompolo to discuss the issues of the Niger Delta. After the meeting, the late President was shocked and told our boss that the meeting was very different from others he had held before. The late President said it was the first time a person would come and discuss issues that will better the lives of the people of the Niger Delta and not his personal interest.

“So, I want to appeal to our people to support the developmental ideas of Ekpemupolo and not to castigate him for something that is not true.”
