OWERRI — A chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Publisher of Champion Newspapers, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has called on Nigerians to continue to support the Federal Government in its current fight against the Boko Haram Islamic insurgents and other serious crimes in the country, such as kidnapping and armed robbery.
Iwuanyanwu, who made the appeal while fielding questions from journalists in Owerri, also opined that the nation’s founding fathers never envisaged what the country was passing through now.
He noted that although Igbos fought a 30-month war of survival, they had continuously pleaded with Nigerians to ensure the unity and integrity of the nation.
“It is true that Igbos fought a 30-month war of self survival. It is also true that today, we are championing the crusade for one Nigeria,” Chief Iwuanyanwu said.
The Champion publisher recalled that events in Nigeria dominated discussions at the 20th World Igbo Congress in Houston Texas, United States of America, stressing that “at the end of the exercise, we unanimously endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for a second term.”
According to him, Nigerians owe a lot of gratitude to journalists for their roles in the restoration and sustenance of democracy in the country.
“Our people forget easily. Nigerian journalists must be commended for staking their lives in the fight for the restoration of democracy. They have also worked very hard for its sustenance,” Iwuanyanwu said.
