OSOGBO— Ondo State House of Assembly yesterday passed the Bill for the disposal of bodies by Cremation and Other Matters connected into law.

This came as  Osun State Ebola monitoring and prevention committee organised a sensitisation workshop for leaders of Transport Unions in the state with a view to preventing the scourge of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD from spreading to the state.
The bill was last week presented by the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

It was passed into law after the third reading preceded by the presentation  of the report of the House Committee on health headed by Bamidele Oleyelogun.
Oleyelogun while presenting the report, said the committee had on Monday organised a public hearing to enable all stakeholders have input into the bill before the passage.
Moving the motion for the passage of the bill, Akinsoyinu said the law would further improve the health sector and protect the people of the state.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele, said the law was in response to the Ebola Virus disease, adding that it would make the bodies of affected people properly disposed.
Akindele said the move became necessary since experts had said that one of the ways of preventing the spread of the disease is proper disposal of bodies.

In a related development Osun State Ebola monitoring and prevention committee yesterday organised a sensitisation workshop for leaders of Transport Unions in the state with a view to preventing the scourge of the virus from spreading to the state.

In his address, the Director of Primary Healthcare and Disease Control, Dr Kayode Ogunniyi, who traced the origin of the virus to Congo, stressed the need for hygienic living as the potent protection against EVD.
He also charged the transporters to be cautious of moving dead bodies from outside the state without permit.
