AFTER 140 days of fruitless search for the abducted Chibok girls from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, in April, the BringBackOurGirls campaign group, yesterday, intensified their campaign by protesting on major roads of Abuja.

The group comprised citizens-driven advocacy group made up of Nigerians from different religions, ethnic and social status and backgrounds who have come together to stand in solidarity for the missing Chibok Girls.

Their placards read: If you keep quiet, it is a matter of time, it will happen to you; Any of our Chibok girls could be your daughter; We can’t have a normal life until our girls have life; we elected Jonathan, he has our mandate, not Shekau, so we can only ask our President to BringBackOurGirls; Time is running out, where is our humanity? where is our love? where is our conscience? BringBackOurGirls.

Addressing the public, the spokesperson of the group, Aisha Yesufu said their demand was that the issue of the more than 200 abducted Chibok girls be prioritized and that relevant authorities should act decisively and ensure the girls are brought back safe and alive to the waiting and loving arms of their parents, arguing that a nation as big and rich like Nigeria could not have abandoned over 200 girls to perish in the hands of terrorists.

She cited similar incidents before the Chibok episode like the massacre of young boys in a school in Buni Yadi and the kidnap of 20 girls from the school, for which nothing was done for the murdered boys by the authorities to bring the perpetrators to book.
