ASABA—A governorship aspirant in Delta State, Obaisi Ovie Omo-Agege, has said that he has no intention of quitting the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, should he fail to secure the party’s 2015 gubernatorial ticket.

Reacting to media reports, Omo-Agege, in a statement by his Director of Communications and Strategy, Mr. Godwin Anaughe, said: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement by one Sir Samuel Onosakponome in a paid advert published in the media, where he claimed that our principal, Omo-Agege, may have plans of dumping the PDP for another party should he fail to secure the governorship ticket of the party for the 2015 general polls.

“I wish to state for the avoidance of doubt that Omo-Agege has never and will never entertain the idea of leaving the PDP, which he laboured very hard to build. We believe in the rules of the game and will respect the democratic wishes of the members in the primary election scheduled for November 29, 2014.

“From the very beginning, Omo-Agege made it clear that he was in the race to win. Nothing has happened since then to change that belief. We are very comfortable with where we are. In fact, we are more confident today than we were at the beginning, that we will win the PDP gubernatorial ticket and the election.

“We appeal to our numerous well wishers and followers to remain calm and resolute in the task of sustaining and building on the legacy of the Emmanuel Uduaghan administration when elected next year. We are focused on the things that we need to do to win and we will not be distracted.

“We are not shaken by the paid advertorial in question as our commitment to the PDP and the democratic process is total. In the course of our just concluded consultation tour of the 25 local government areas of Delta State, Omo-Agege made a commitment to Deltans that he will not engage in smear campaign. We will keep to this commitment and every commitment we have made and will make during the course of this campaign. We shall not succumb to cheap blackmail from those who may be scared of our ever rising profile in the field.”
