Jonathan pledges to cooperate with private sector to fight poverty

Ibeno (Akwa Ibom) – President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday reiterated his administration’s commitment to work with private sector to reduce poverty through job creation and industrialization nationwide.

Jonathan said this at Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom when he performed the groundbreaking of multi-billion naira methanol plant.

He said the project would create direct and indirect employment opportunities for the people of the area in addition to other multiplier effects on the lives of the citizenry.

The president also said the project would boost the nation’s foreign exchange earnings through export.

In his address, the Chairman of Quantum Petrochemical Company, the owners of the plant, Mr Jim Ovia, said the plant would produce plastics, fertiliser, bottles, tyres and shovels; among other items.

In his welcome address, Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, promised to cooperate with the investors to realise its objectives.

“We will make sure that what we are witnessing today come to fruition,” Akpabio said. (NAN)
