Osun speaker urges investigation to collapsed school building

Mr Najeem Salaam, the Speaker of Osun House of Assembly, has called for thorough investigation on the collapse of a newly completed Ejigbo High School, Ejigbo Council Area, Osun.

This is contained in a statement by the speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Goke Butika, in Osogbo on Friday.

Salaam, who representing Ejigbo state constituency, Osun, said it was too early to conclude that the building collapsed was due to substandard materials.

The speaker, who expressed his concern over the unfortunate incident, stressed the need for thorough investigation to determine the true cause of the collapse.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a newly completed Government High School in Ejigbo Council Area of the state, which was ready for inauguration, had collapsed on Wednesday.

Two persons were reportedly injured, but there was no death recorded as the structure was yet to be occupied by pupils.

Salaam, who said he personally monitored the work-in-progress of the collapsed building, said no substandard materials were used in the construction of the building.

The speaker said statement credited to some political players that substandard materials were the cause of the collapse, was prejudicial and an act of sabotage.

He said those who were saying that substandard materials were used in the construction of the school should present their evidence or stop their ill motivated politicking.

The speaker, however, urged the relevant authorities to carry out a thorough investigation to determine the true cause of the collapse.

Salam said that for a new building to be uprooted from the foundation, thorough investigation was needed. (NAN)
