RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) – FIFA officials are investigating claims by Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini that Uruguay’s Luis Suarez bit him during Tuesday’s World Cup match.
FIFA said they would wait for match reports from Uruguay’s World Cup win over Italy before deciding whether to take action against Suarez.
“We are awaiting the official match reports and will gather all the necessary elements in order to evaluate the matter,” a FIFA spokeswoman said after Uruguay’s 1-0 win over Italy.
Television replays appeared to show Suarez attempting to sink his teeth into Chiellini’s shoulder.
