Jos— Following the condoning off of St. Theresa’s, the Plateau Riders’ Park, Polo and Ahmadu Bello areas of Jos because of a bomb scare yesterday morning, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe, has cautioned residents against rumour-mongering and falsehood.

Addressing journalists in Jos where some defused Improvised Explosive Devices, were displayed as “proactive advocacy on bombing,” Olakpe asked residents to report to the nearest police station any suspicious object or person, instead of spreading false rumours and creating fear.

Items displayed were dyno-cords, dynamites, detonators, ammonia nitrate, urea nitrates, shrapnel fragments, nails, broken bottles, gas cylinders among others.
However, a police anti-bomb expert, DSP Abel Mbibi, said the components, when assembled as explosives, had the capacity to reach about 300 metres when detonated.

Mbibi cautioned people against rushing to scenes of bomb blasts and called on security operatives to be vigilant while at check points.

He urged them to be on the lookout for dynamites, detonators, ammonia nitrates and urea nitrates in their environment as “terrorists do not go into innovation, but convention, using the same kind of cars and objects” in their attacks.
