ABUJA — The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers, NATCOMS, has filed a contempt of court suit against the major telecommunication service providers and the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, at the Federal High Court, in Lagos State.

Other defendants in the suit include the registered trustees of Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, ALTON, MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, Airtel Networks Limited, Emerging Market Telecommunications Services Limited, Etisalat and Golabcom Limited.

In the motion on notice brought before the court presided over by Justice Ibrahim Buba, NATCOMS is asking an order to commit the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, the managing director of the 3rd respondent, Michael Ikpoki; the Chief Executive Officer of the 4th respondent, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya and Mr. Mohammed Jameel, the Chief Operating Officer of the 6th respondent to prison for contempt of court committed in connection with the proceedings in this matter.

Furthermore, the plaintiff  is seeking a declaration that all Nigerian telecom subscribers of the third and sixth defendants are entitled to compensation as well as a declaration compelling them to credit forthwith, the accounts of all subscribers in their networks with N10,000 worth of airtime each and or such airtime as may be determined as appropriate by the court for on-net and off-net voice and data calls.
