Osun Speaker’s security aide kills colleague in error

BY GBENGA OLARINOYE

OSOGBO— Pandemonium broke out Saturday when a security aide attached to Najeem Salaam, Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, simply identified as Idowu, allegedly shot another colleague identified as Bunmi, also attached to the Speaker, to death at Ika, a village in Ejigbo Local Government Area of the state during a public function.

According to sources, Idowu and Bunmi had followed the Speaker to Ejigbo his home town last Saturday where they all attended the presentation of staff of Office to the Orangun of Ika-Ejigbo.

It was gathered that the deceased was called to control some youths that were engaged in a fracas after the ceremony. When his efforts failed, he called on his colleague, who shot him on the head in an attempt to shoot into the air.

The Media Assistant to the Speaker, Mr. Goke Butikakuro, who confirmed the development, said the incident happened last Saturday at 11.30pm, when the Speaker had gone to bed. He said the officers were best of friends.

Efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the state Police Command, Mrs Folashade Odoro, proved abortive as she did not respond to the calls put across to her.
