The Nigeria Governors’ Forum on yesterday said only concerted efforts of all stakeholders could defeat the problem of corruption in the country.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the retreat of the Governor Rotimi Amaechi- led faction in Lagos.
The release,read by Amaechi noted that corruption had a debilitating effect on national development and had adversely affected human development indices.
Part of the communique read:”The anti-corruption battle should be anchored on a massive programme of national value re-orientation involving the state sector, private sector and the civil society.
”Also we believe the fight against corruption needs strong political will, moral leadership, certainty of sanction and commitment of governors to succeed “.
The forum also urged stakeholders ,especially federal and state governments to harmonise their different policies to guarantee agricultural development.
It said agricultural policies should be long-term and should be geared towards tackling challenges militating against productivity and yields.
”In our task to revamp agriculture,a special focus will be placed on improving post harvest processing plants and stakeholders’ inclusion and participation in agricultural formulation.“
The forum said it would continue to accord priority to education by improving access as well as revamping infrastructure and transforming curricullum.
In the communique, the forum said it would enhance security in the country by pursuing co-operation on security management including sharing of information and placing emphasis on the human security needs of the people.
