Leading opposition leader and former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has flayed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for supposedly politicising the country’s national security and vowed not to be distracted from the goal of unveiling the lies of the ruling party.

Buhari in a statement said neither he nor his associates in the opposition would be distracted from their set goal of stopping and reversing alleged setbacks brought to the country through 15 years of rule by the PDP.

Buhari’s statement followed assertions by the PDP that the former head of state and one of his political associates, Mallam  Nasir el-Rufai knew more than they were willing to admit on the spate of insecurity facing the nation.

El-Rufai had in an earlier statement faulted the PDP and accused the Federal Government of using propaganda to fight Boko Haram and challenged the administration to unveil any evidence they had against himself and Buhari.

Buhari in his own reaction posted on his facebook page said:

“We will not be distracted by the PDP’s latest attempt at blackmail and character assassination. We in the APC are channeling our energies towards reversing the setbacks recorded under fifteen years of PDP misrule and mismanagement.

“The attempt by the PDP to politicise national security shows that it is an irresponsible, bigoted party that thrives on fomenting division and hatred among Nigerians.”

“Politicising national security sends the wrong signal to our international security partners and undermines national unity; a unity the PDP immensely benefits from.”

“We will continue telling the truth about them, and we will not be distracted nor intimidated by the lies they fabricated against us. Where they see division, we see unity. Where they see manipulation, we see collaboration. Where they see hate, we see hope.”

“Today, Nigerians no longer buy into this deception. The pervasive insecurity, rising unemployment and their tragic consequences have shown that every Nigerian is a victim of the PDP’s poor leadership and we can only rescue our country by joining hands and working together.”

Buhari’s statement posted on Sunday night had as at press time yesterday attracted more than 700 likes.

El-Rufai had in a strongly worded reaction said it was a sign of incompetence for the government to have evidence against terror suspects and hold such only for propaganda purposes.
