ASABA — ITSEKIRI Progress Club in Delta State, yesterday, cautioned the Federal Government against sending wrong signals between the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta region with the exclusion of the Itsekiri as delegates to the national conference.
It, meanwhile, absolved President Goodluck Jonathan of any blame in the exclusion of Itsekiri nation from the list of delegates to the confab. Publicity Secretary of the club, Mr Lawrence Ukubeyinje, said officials of the Federal Government who prepared the list should be blamed.
He said: “Against the backdrop of the unprecedented peace that now exists between the Itsekiri and Ijaw in the Niger Delta, Federal Government officials should avoid mistakes that send wrong signals. It is one mistake too many to have left out the Itsekiri nation from the list of delegates.”
The club called on President Jonathan, Delta State Government and all authorities concerned “to correct the omission and bring Itsekiri delegates to the conference.”
