Delta State Government has awarded contract for the building of a second international airport at Osubi, near Warri.
Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama, announced this at the All Saints’ Cathedral Church, Ughelli, during a thanksgiving service for the victory of Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo in the October 12 Delta Central Senatorial by-election.
He said Warri, as the commercial headquarters of the state, needed an international airport. While noting that the state government was committed to its completion, he assured that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration would finish strong in 2015.
Utuama said he would work in harmony with Aguariavwodo to ensure that more federal projects were cited in Urhoboland.
Speaking with newsmen after the thanksgiving service, Senator Aguariavwodo said: “Urhobo people would get what they deserve in the scheme of things; we just have to be patient. “We are working hard. What belongs to the Urhobo people will surely come to them.”
On the revitalisation of the ailing Delta Steel Company (DSC), and the completion of the railway project, Aguariavwodo said: “There are a lot of stakeholders involved in the revitalisation of DSC. “I am in touch with them and we are working hard. Whatever that needs to be done for the company to come alive again will be done. As for the railway project, I can assure you that it will be completed.”
Earlier in his sermon, Bishop of the Ughelli Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Cyril Odutemu, told politicians to bear fruits and shun politics of sycophancy.
He stressed the need for the revitalisation of DSC and creation of employment for youths.
