PORT HARCOURT— RIVERS State Government has denied claims by the faction of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, led by Felix Obuah that six commissioners in the state were set to dump Governor Rotimi Amaechi for Obuah’s faction of the party in the state.

It will be recalled that Governor Amaechi was suspended by the party some months before he and six other governors floated the new Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP.

The state government also,  said the allegation by the PDP that the governor had instructed his aides to register with All Progressives Congress, APC, was untrue.

The state factional PDP Chairman, Obuah had alleged that there was already a split in the cabinet of the state government with some of the commissioners set to cross over to his faction. Obuah also in a statement, said that the governor had ordered his aides to register with APC.

In their separate responses, the state Commissioner for Information, Mrs Ibim Semenitari and the Chief of Staff Government House, Port Harcourt, Mr Tony Okocha, described the allegations by Oduah as untrue.

According to Mrs Semenitari, the state executive council was firmly united and its support for Governor Amaechi was total.

She said: “It is obvious that the achievements of Governor Amaechi far exceed what the Grass Roots Initiative, GDI, can bring against the administration.  Amaechi’s cabinet remains intact. No commissioner has any plan to resign and no commissioner is joining GDI.

“The commissioners in this cabinet have a commitment to deliver to Rivers people based on the vision of our leader, Governor Amaechi.  We do not have any plan to do anything that will even remotely affect the progress of Rivers people.

“To join GDI, or even to relate with them, will not be in the interest of Rivers people, as GDI’s only interest is to loot the resources of the people.”

On his part, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Mr Okocha, said that the allegations by the party were laughable.
