Monarch settles rift between massob leader, AIYO founder

By OKONKWO EZE

ONITSHA — The traditional ruler of Nri Ancient Kingdom, in Anambra State, Igwe Obidiegwu Onyesoh, has at last brokered peace between the leader of Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, and founder of Association of Igbo Youths, AIYO, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka.

Followers of the duo had been engaged in fratricidal war, which resulted in deaths and injuries.

Igwe Onyesoh who conferred the chieftaincy titles on both personalities, charged them to lead Ndigbo in peace and harmony.

However, barely a year after the duo moved about together and charted Igbo course, misunderstanding crept in and they parted ways in acrimony.

At a stage, they even used their individual groups to engage each other in a bloody battle.

But during a courtesy call on the monarch in his palace at Nri, Igwe Onyesoh counseled them to sheath their swords and work together in the interest of Ndigbo, adding that they merely had a case of misunderstanding and communication gap brought about by sychophants.

The monarch, who counseled them in the presence of the leader of Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo; leader of Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, Chief Fredrick Fasehun; former Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, and Abacha’s first son, Mohammed, charged them to regard the reconciliation as real and total.

The monarch said he would continue to monitor their relationship from time to time.

In his response, Ezeonwuka commended the monarch for his timely intervention in the misunderstanding.

Efforts to get Uwazuruike to comment on the development proved abortive as he was hurrying to leave the Nri palace for MASSOB headquarters, Okwe, with his entourage, including Asari-Dokubo, Fasehun, Al-mustapha and Mohammed Abacha.
