World Bank empowers 110 Ebonyi communities


ABAKALIKI – Ebonyi State Community and Social Development Agency, EB-CSDA, a World Bank-assisted project, yesterday disclosed that 110 communities in the 13 local government areas had so far benefitted from the scheme since it started operation  in the state in April 2009.

It also stated that more than N926 million had been disbursed by the agency to the benefitting communities till 30 June, 2013, adding that its activities with all the communities had been transparent and rewarding.

The projects implemented by the communities are in the areas of education, rural electrification, environment and natural resources, health, transport, water, and gender as 170 micro projects had been completed and made functional in the course of the exercise.

Briefing newsmen at the agency’s office in Abakaliki, the General Manager of EB-CSDA, Dr. Peter Mbam, stated that Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State had approved the forwarding of a letter of expression of interest to the World Bank and IMF, Abuja, for the state to participate in the planned extension of CSDP in the country.
