Kwara united Football Club of Ilorin are hopeful that the continental ticket for next year’s CAF Champions League would not elude them this season.
Welfare officer of the club, Tunde Ogunlana gave the assurance that the “Afonja warriors” have the potential to pick a continental ticket at the end of the 2012/2013 Globacom Premier league. He based his hope on the recent performance of the team and the motivation from the state government.
Speaking with sports journalists immediately after his team defeated Heartland Football club of Owerri in an away encounter, the seasoned football administrator said “ I want to say that for this season maybe you have not been watching our matches, this is the best away records we have had so far.
I have been in Kwara United for 16 football seasons so I know what I am saying. Most times we win at home, draw away or lose away but now you can see us winning at away. We have even lost our home match nevertheless, but we play like a team now and I believe that with little motivation and push we will get there”.
On the performance of the Technical crew, Ogunlana said “You can also notice that the coming of Coach Samson Unuanel brought a lot of development to Kwara United both in discipline and in technical aspects of the game. You can see when our boys play, they take the ball from our area to the ir opponents.
We now play what is called mass attack, mass defence. Sometimes you see us scoring goals at away and home matches. For us to be scoring away, it’s an improvement compared to the previous seasons.”
