Mimiko seeks more resources for states

The Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has called for the  devolution of more resources to states to enable them meet their numerous challenges.

Mimiko stated this in his office during a visit by officials of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, led by Rev. Ajibola Fagboyegun.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Eni Akinsola, the governor submitted that  some of the items contained in the exclusive list which included the issues  of security and power were also being handled by state governments.

He noted that the state, which is the closer tier of government  to the people, has various challenges that  affect the socio-economic development of the people.

While noting  that  the issue of  review of revenue allocation is long overdue, Mimiko commended the Commission for the bold step taken to revisit the allocation formula.

He said: “We are in total support of devolution of resources to state because a lot of activities are going on in the state. Nigerians believe that  more resources must be devolved to the state. We believe that the Federal Government is having much while little goes to the components.”
