Lagos Pastor docked for OBT, stealing

The Police in Lagos, last Thursday, arraigned the General Overseer of  Household  of Destiny Church in Ajao Estate, Lagos, Reverend Praise M.C. Bassey, for alleged stealing and obtaining  N3 million from a lady, Divine Arong , a staff of Cross River State Governor’s office in Calabar.

The 37-year-old Pastor was arraigned at an Ebutte-Metta Magistrate’s Court 8 presided over by Magistrate O.O. Olatunji.

Arraigning the suspect, the prosecutor, G.O. Osuyi told the court that the accused, on  December 10, 2010, at Zenith Bank Plc, Lagos in the Lagos magistraterial district, fraudulently stole the sum of N3m, from one Divine Arong thereby committed an offence punishable under section 390 (b) criminal code, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

In the second count, the prosecutor told the court also that Reverend Praise Bassey, on the day and time, at the same place in the same magisterial district with intent to defraud, obtained  N3m from one Reverend Divine Arong on the pretext that he was in position to assist her purchase a Hyundai IX35 SUV vehicle from South Korea, a representation he knew to be false thereby committed an offence punishable under section 419 of criminal Code cap C17 Vol. 2, law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties, one who must be a blood relation and resident in Lagos.  The court said also that the address of the surety must be verified.
