UMUAHIA — ABIA State chapter of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has suspended its 8-day old strike and directed its members to resume work today.
The teachers had embarked on the strike by refusing to resume on April 29 when schools re-opened in the state to press for payment of Teachers’ Enhanced Salary Structure, TSS.
State chairman of the union, Mr. Enoch Omeoga, who announced the suspension of the strike, explained that the strike was suspended because of the intervention of Governor Theodore Orji. Omeoga urged the teachers to resume work today without any delay.
He explained that the union had directed its members not to resume school on April 29, 2013; because government refused to obey the agreement it had with the union to commence the payment of TSS from January, 2013.
