AWKA – ANAMBRA State government has spoken of plans to commence soon construction of 1000 low cost housing units for civil servants in the state.
Governor Peter Obi, who gave the cheering news while flagging off the construction of access road to Ngozika Housing Estate in Awka, said the aim was to provide workers with good houses at competitive prices.
According to him, for the first time, the state government will deliver proper and well planned housing estate to the people in partnership with private developers.
The governor advocated a robust mortgage system that would enable more Nigerians own houses which they could repay in instalment.
He explained that when completed, the road would further enhance the quality of the Ngozika estate and assured that money to complete the project has been set aside.
The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Callistus Ilozumba said the Obi administration has introduced a new innovation in developing housing estates in line with global best practices which provides all key infrastructure, including road, water and electricity.
