UMUAHIA — AS the controversy over the withdrawal of the degree awarded to former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, by Abia State University lingers, students of the university have thrown their weight behind the action of the university.
The students made their position known through their leaders who paid a solidarity visit to Government House.
According to Comrade Eke Obinna NathClinton, the President of the students’ union, the Senate of the university was a duly constituted body that had the right to revoke any student’s certificate found to have been earned through fraudulent means.
He, therefore, commended the vice chancellor and senate of the university for protecting the sanctity of their certificates.
Receiving the students on behalf of the governor, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Cosmos Ndukwe, frowned on the situation where a national daily would target its report at maligning the students and government.
He warned that government would not fold its arm and watch such act continue.
Ndukwe called on the sponsors of such malicious write ups to desist or face the wrath of the law.
According to him, the government has provided the enabling environment for learning at ABSU.
He pledged that the government would continue to work towards protecting the lives and property of the citizenry of the state at all times.
