Akure – National Programme Manager, State Partnership for Accountability, Responsiveness and Capability, SPARC, Dr. Joe Abah, has described corruption as a major bane of Nigeria’s growth.

Dr. Abah spoke at the 2013 session of the annual Iju Public Affairs Forum, IPAF, an initiative of a former World Bank expert, Prof. Ladipo Adamolekun, held in Iju, Akure North, Ondo State.

He said: “There is a clear and urgent need to tackle the menace of corruption, a binding constraint to organisational effectiveness.”

Speaking on the lecture entitled Pockets of Effectiveness in Nigerian Public Service and Lessons for Accelerating National Development, Abah said if corruption was tackled, “there is a much better chance of engendering effective public organisations.”

Abah listed National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC; Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, as having Pockets of Effectiveness, POEs.
