US proposes $16bn settlement with BP over Gulf spill

The United States, US, is proposing a $16 billion settlement to British Petroleum, BP, over the 2010 oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to reports, the settlement would cover fines BP owes under the Clean Water Act, a federal water pollution law, as well as payments under the Natural Resources Damage Assessment, an environmental evaluation.
