What I told Keshi – Adamu

For the love of the game, Dr Amos Adamu, the former Director General of the National Sports Commission can’t stop talking football. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, marked with pump and revelry at his Ikoyi residence, the former FIFA and CAF Executive member broke his long self-imposed silence.

In an interview with AIT’s Felix Okugbue, Adamu spoke on various issues affecting Nigerian sports, from Nigeria’s poor outing at the last Olympics to the dilapidated state of sports facilities in the country. Above all, the former WAFU President spoke passionately about the Super Eagles and the impending Africa Cup of Nations campaign in South Africa and he recalled his conversation with head coach, Stephen Keshi.

“Keshi called me from their Faro camp, early this morning(Wednesday 26 December, 2012) to wish me a Happy Birthday. I thanked him and told him to do everything humanly possible to bring back the Cup of Nations trophy,” Adamu recalled. “I told him, ‘bring that cup back. I know you can do it because I know Nigeria has the potentials and we want that cup back.”

The revered sports administrator said that it beats him hollow each time he sees the country’s football teams struggling against hitherto lesser known oppositions.
