*Ibinabo, AGN boss
By Benjamin Njoku
Newly elected president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN), Ibinabo Fiberisima has already started the process of rebuilding the once collapsed actors’ house.
The former beauty queen, upon her assumption of office last Saturday, appealed to all the aggrieved members of the guild to sheathe their swords and embrace dialogue for the sake of moving the guild forward again.
Ibinabo, who defeated Emeka Rollas at the polls, said, the challenge before her incoming administration is to strive to restore peace and unity in the troubled guild.
Suing for peace, Ibinabo said “the election is now over, all I am now after is to unite everyone in the guild and bring the A-list stars back into the fold. We need to rebuild the guild, we need to bring love back into the guild, enough of this fight.”
“I am going to form a reconciliation committee, that’s the first committee I’m going to form. By the time, we have reconciled all the warring factions, there will be no fight in the guild. It is time for us to move forward, it time for us to rebuild our guild.”
‘I am the president and I intend to remain president of this guild till my tenure ends and I will change the face of this guild.”
Ibinabo was officially sworn in as the new president of AGN after winning the national elections.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the guild’s national secretariat, in Surulere, in the presence of a few notable Nollywood actors, directors and producers including movie producer, Zeb Ejiro and his brother, Chico Ejiro, two former AGN presidents Segun Arinze and Ejike Asiegbu, Charles Inojie amongst others.
In the absence of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria Electoral Committee (AGNEC) chairman Ayo Manuel, Ibinabo was sworn in by the acting chairperson, veteran actress Rachel Oniga and another AGNEC member actress Florence Onuma.
Calling on all members of AGN to support the incoming administration, the two past presidents of the guild, Ejike Asiegbu and Segun Arinze have thrown weights behind Ibinabo’s presidency. “ We can’t continue with this fighting. The time is now for us to reunite and give peace a chance,” said Asiegbu.
Meanwhile,an impeccable source hinted that Emeka Rollas is laying claim to the guild’s topmost position. He was announced as president a few hours before the results were released by the electoral chairman, Ayo Mauel. Also, on Thursday, Emeka Ike dragged the newly elected executives to the police station, where all parties were advised to maintain the status-quo.
