Rivers sports official seeks prayers for Falconets

Port Harcourt – An official of the Rivers State Sports Council on Friday, in Port Harcourt, urged Nigerians to pray for the Falconets ahead of their Sept. 4 semi final match against the U.S’ team at the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan.

The  Falconets won their way into their second successive FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup semi final with a hard-fought 1-0 win in extra time against a resilient Mexican team in Tokyo on Aug. 30.

In the other semi final, the U.S. prevailed 2-1 over North Korea to set up the clash with Nigeria.

Mr Barisi Wifa, the council’s Media Officer, said that prayers by soccer-loving Nigerians could propel the Falconets to victory.

“We should try to believe in ourselves, have the Falconets in our prayers,” Wifa said.

Wifa, who was happy with the team’s performance so far, urged Nigerians not allow the country’s dismal outing at the 2012 London Olympics to dampen their enthusiasm.

“The Falconets have shown that Nigeria is improving in the game, and I believe that the team will make it to victory.

“And, of course, our team is well prepared; making it to the semi-final is a laudable one,” he said.

The official urged the team to remain focused, noting that their victory would be for Nigeria.

Wifa added: “The team is disciplined, tactical and very exciting to watch. I have no doubts that if they maintain their current form they will emerge victorious.”  (NAN)
