YENAGOA—The coastal communities of Okaba and Ogbogoro in Bayelsa State, may be cut off from mainland Yenagoa, if urgent steps are not taken to repair the Ikoli Bridge, which is on the verge of caving in.
The bridge, which was commissioned four years ago, is the only link between Okaba and its adjoining communities across the Ikoli creek to mainland Yenagoa.
Already, there is a wide crack in the pillar close to the bridge head, believed to have been caused by gravitational pull from the failed portion of Swali Road end, linking the structure and sand dredging around the ailing structure.
A visit to the bridge, showed that a large portion of the sand dump around close to the bridge head at the Swali flank had been washed away over time.
