Manager of Heartland Football Club of Owerri, Ransome Madu has told Saturday Vanguard sports that the team’s intention was to get to the top of this year’s CAF Confederations Cup competition now in the second round.
“We are determined to go higher and higher and I know we can reach this target this year because it’s an opportunity on our hands that we have just got to utilise to the best of our ability,” Madu said.
Heartland a fortnight ago raised hopes of fans when they battled Cameroon’s US Haut Kam to a goal-less draw in the round of 16 first leg encounter away to their opponents and Madu, a former player of the team in its days as Iwuanyanwu Nationale praised his players for the result.
He pointed out that the club is not only totally focused on the objective but have prepared seriously for the return leg tomorrow and will be banking on full home advantage to dismantle the Cameroonians.
The Manager had made a passionate appeal to the league body and the NFF to grant them a week off from league matches but the request was partially approved as they played against Sharks FC last Sunday but had to be excused from the midweek tie against Ocean Boys to give them time for tomorrow’s match against US Haut Kam at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
