The FRSC in Oyo State on Wednesday said 46 people died in 68 road crashes during the first quarter of the year.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan, the FRSC Sector Commander, Godwin Ogagaoghene, said the crashes involved a total of 295 people while no fewer than 249 people were injured.
He, however, said the data reflected a drastic improvement over the same period in 2011 in which 89 people were killed while 509 were injured in 94 road crashes.
“I believe this improved statistics reflects upon our relentless efforts in creating awareness on road safety measures over the last one year.
“Motorists are beginning to see the need to obey traffic laws while also ensuring their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on trips.
“However, I appeal to motorists not to be a threat to one another, look well before overtaking because, speed kills,’’ Ogagaoghene said.
He also advised commuters in transit to always caution any driver unnecessarily over speeding and to report those who fail to heed the advice. (NAN)
