The management of Yaba College of Technology (YCT), has warned the new students of the college on the attainment of 75 per cent class attendance in a semester as parameter that qualifies students to sit for any examination in the institution.
The charge was given by the school’s rector, Dr (Mrs) Kudirat Ladipo at the 2011/2012 academic session matriculation ceremony of the new intakes held at the institution’s Sports Complex.
She stressed that the students should make the best use of the opportunity presented to them by their admission into the college, saying: “It is undoubtedly, a thing of joy and pride to be enrolled by the school.”
She went on: “You are indeed privileged to have been selected after the keen competition through JAMB and the rigorous post-JAMB screening by the college.”
The rector further urged the students to ensure they abide by the oath of allegiance sworn by them to be of exemplary behaviour throughout their stay in the college, shunning all forms of anti-social behaviour such as examination misconduct, cult activities and other unruly conduct at all times.
Ladipo also noted that the college has made concerted efforts to meet Federal Government’s directive of improving access to education, by construction of more structures for lectures in 2012 that will provide additional sitting space of not less than 2,500.
“One of the proposed structures is an auditorium with a sitting capacity of 1,300,” she stated. Dr. Ladipo, however, implored the students to remain focused, make success of their stay in the college and pray to remain sources of joy and pride.
She went on to enumerate few issues which were described as the core values of academic community in the institution and which all students are required to obey. Ladipo declared: “It is imperative that we recognise that the primary purpose of your enrolment in this college is to acquire high quality education.
All students are required to obey all college rules and regulations; dress properly and demonstrate exemplary behaviour at all times.
“To ensure effective communication and understanding, the students union executives are in constant dialogue with college authorities through Office of the Dean of Student Affairs.”
According to the rector, it is illegal to operate a secret society or belong to a banned society, contravention of this regulation will lead to expulsion and possible criminal prosecution.
