BENIN CITY— GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, weekend, emerged the governorship candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, for the  July 14, governorship election in the state, polling 334,217 out of the 341,333 voters in the 192 wards of the state.

Oshiomhole was the sole candidate in the primaries conducted by ACN national leadership led by Mr Kenneth Kobani and officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi and the former House of Representatives member, Mr Patrick Obahiagbon, described Oshiomhole’s emergence as not surprising to the people of the state, saying that his administration so far reminded the people of the days of the old Bendel State, when Dr Samuel Ogbemudia was governor.

According to Ikimi, the emergence of Oshiomhole as the only aspirant was a testimony to the fact that the governor had made the people of the state proud in the last three years.

He said:  “We have made history again because  we gathered here four years ago in a similar manner and successfully presented Oshiomhole.

“We have come here again to present to you, Edo State and the country, a report card of performance. Close to 400,000 persons voted for him. It shows that the July 14 election is almost a forgone conclusion.  He is accepted in Edo North,  supported in the Central and enjoys  overwhelming support in Edo south.”
